This real human skull pendant shows the neo-Druid symbol of the Awen, which is said to have been invented by the 18th century poet, Iolo Morgannwg, however, studies suggest it may well be a lot older than originally thought. The word Awen mean inspiration or essence in the Celtic language and first appeared in the 9th Century book “Historia Brittonum”.

Now recognised as a powerful Druid symbol showing triple rays reflect the symbolic potency of triplicities it can be interpreted in more than one way. In Iolo’s interpretation, the symbol represents the first energy, the God-name, which called the universe into existence, columns of light and sound that would allow the viewer to connect with the primal energy of life. A more modern take on the Awen is of the symbol as an aerial view of three stones, with shadows emanating from them, tracking the equinoxes and solstices, and showing the source of all life – the sun. The Awen is represented in nature by rays of light shining through the clouds, striking down on parts of the landscape, showing light can break through the clouds and fog, a sign to elevate spirits and bring reassurance in dark times, and is also said to represent the harmony of opposites in the universe.

With the number three being so important in Druidry, a number of correspondences can be applied to the rays of the Awen, for instance, light/dusk/dark, love/truth/justice, father/mother/child.

All the remains I sell are over 100 years old for the law, ethically sourced and respect of the living friends and relatives, I would never sell any remains with a known name as this may upset the living and that is in my opinion disrespectful. If someone is disrespected with no link to a random skull then that is their opinion and in my mind not disrespectful.
