This piece is from the Ejagham people of cross river. It is a fetish used for cultural display. It is an ancestral warriors skull from a tribal war. They carry it once in a year during their festival where it is worn on the top of a man’s head and paraded through town by the sound of drums.
Purchased from a collector of African arts, originally he bought it direct from the tribe on his travels in the late 20th century.
